Why the Sun is far and the Moon is near...
Back when the Earth had not existed, there were two celestial beings of space and time. Sol, the god, and Lune, the goddess, were lovers. They loved each other so much that soon Lune gave birth to their daughter, Earth. Both parents loved her so dearly, but Sol became too obsessive. The warmth of his love was too much for Earth to handle and Lune felt that his strong fatherly love would soon kill her. So Lune made the decision that he must leave, so she ordered him to stay far away from her, only enough so their daughter could still feel loved by both of her parents.

This is why the Sun is very far away from the Earth and the Moon still stays nears.
